Heart of Caroline

In the heart of Carolina, where the tall pines grow so green

I can still feel the presence of a lady I knew

In a young boy’s small town dream

I watched her as she pulled up

Saw her smile in school every day

I don’t why, I was so shy I let her slip away

Into the arms of some old stranger in a small town down the line

I went over seas and left part of me in the heart of Caroline

A few years came between us, with a wrinkle or two across s my eyes

I made my way home, saw her all alone

Then I asked her if she realized

I’ve watched as you grew up, she said with a smile upon her face

Oh I watched you too if I only knew

Maybe another time another place

She said I went off to marry but I kept you in my mind

Don’t know what to do I left my love too in the heart of Caroline

Repeat

She said I went off to marry but I kept you in my mind

Don’t know what to do I left my love too in the heart of Caroline
