Cité des Arts, Lafayette, La. (7/20/03)

Playing in the exquisite acoustic space of Citè’s intimate theater, complete with staging reminiscent of great-grandma’s parlor (above), created the perfect setting for a memorable Sunday afternoon show that was a treat for us and our audience. (Right) Huddled around the single mic like an old-time radio show, we tighten up our harmony on “If I Lose.”

Louisiana Celebration of Bluegrass (3/22/03)
The historic Louisiana Hayride stage of Shreveport’s Municipal Auditorium was the scene for a Fair to Middlin’ showcase performance at “A Louisiana Celebration of Bluegrass.” Anne’s a capella rendition of “Wayfaring Stranger” never sounded better, thanks to the natural reverb of this gorgeous acoustic space at 705 Elvis Presley Avenue. Good thing, since she noticed the King of Bluegrass himself, Jimmy Martin, listening off in the wings! You can almost hear the ghostly echoes of “Blue Moon of Kentucky” from that well-worn stage if you close your eyes and listen real hard. (Photo © Joey Kent 2003.Used with permission. The Logon Cafe (5/25/02)
Mississippi's Doug Anderson joins us in Beaumont, Tex., for a fun evening at Beaumont's Logon Cafe. Not just a live music venue, this cafe has brewed up an interesting amalgam of caffeine, good food and excess bandwidth (from the computer side of their business), enabling it to stream great sounding live audio and video simulcasts of performances on the Internet through their cybercafe at www.logoncafe.net. Festival International de Louisiane (4/26/01)

FIL’s Scene Louisiane stage was a fine place to kick off Fair to Middlin's third year (our first public performance was during Artwalk at Festival International in 1999). Every April Lafayette becomes the hub of a fascinating smorgasbord of homegrown and world music, offering over 55 bands on five stages and drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors. You know you're playing for real music lovers when you draw an enthusiastic crowd for your soundcheck!

Living Legends of Bluegrass & Country Music (3/8/01)

Nowhere near legendary status ourselves, we were still mighty pleased
to grace the same stage as Dr. Ralph Stanley and Blue Highway at
Johnnie and Peggie Stringer’s wonderful festival in Columbia, Miss.
Our buddy Butch Cooksey is enjoying himself helping us out on bass.

Maine to La.: An Evening of Folk Music (9/26/00)

Taking the stage for an enthusiastic packed house with a wonderful friend and favorite fiddler extraordinaire, Michael Doucet of BeauSoleil, in a show simulcast on public radio and the World Wide Web was an evening we’ll never forget...so it became the basis for our first CD, “Turn Your Radio On; Fair to Middlin’ Captured Live!” (Photo © Winnie Darphin-Bacqué 2000.
