About this column...

Welcome to 'Vocal Point', a broadly-based monthly feature dealing with the many facets of the voice---an instrument central to the heart and soul of bluegrass music. We'll be touching upon a variety of topics including the physical mechanics, common problems and care of the voice. I will be sharing ideas with you on personal expression as well as featuring mini-interviews and anecdotes from your favorite singers. Lastly, I encourage you to contact me (dwyland@ix.netcom.com) with personal questions or insights of your own so I may address some of them in the column.

A little bit of bio...

As a Flying Fish recording artist (now Rounder Records), I have performed extensively in the U.S. and abroad during a touring career that has spanned over two decades. Privately trained in "the Big Apple", my passion for teaching, i.e. sharing my skills and love for singing began about 14 years ago. Since then I have taught workshops at festivals, music camps and schools across the country, as well as privately out of my studio in the Washington D.C. area.

Simply put, my goal is to help you find your own voice so you may sing with all the love for the music, spontaneity and feeling that is naturally yours! Thanks and I'll see you next month.
