Valerie and Walter Crockett serve up their latest selection Emily's Angel with the kind of entertainment and delightful diversity that has become their trademark. From light pop to blues to toe-tapping Cajun and country, the Crockett's take the listener on a musical journey through twelve original pieces. Walter and Valerie's writing styles are clever and catchy and combined with their solid yet mellow vocals certainly makes for a highly palatable combination. A solid set of musicians back and compliment the Crocketts and add to the overall enjoyment of this musical smorgasbord.
The country-flavored, 'You've Had Your Chance', the Cajun-tinged 'For The Long Run', the bluesy 'Same Train' and the sweet love song 'Just Let Your Love' are a few of the eight cuts written by Walter. These are fine examples of Walter's diverse talents with shrewd twists of phrases, soulful lyrics and winning melodies.
The title cut Emily's Angel was written by Valerie and tells the story of her daughter Emily's meeting with her 'angel' Garth Brooks. Emily was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumor several years ago and found strength and comfort in Brooks songs. The song is a sweet tribute to Brooks straight from the heart of a grateful mother.
'One Special Day' was written and is performed by the Crockett's daughter Emily. It is her version of the special meeting with Garth Brooks and how a short meeting turned into a three-day whirlwind for this special young lady.
'I Want You To Know' was written by Valerie and is dedicated to her mother, Alma Orchinik who passed away in 1999. It is a poignant angle on saying goodbye to a beloved parent and shows the strength of a daughter in letting her mother go to say, it's okay if you need to drift away. The songs message is enhanced by Valerie's sweet and gentle vocals.
The CD ends with the fast paced 'Ice Cream Man' written by Walter with lead vocals by Valerie. This over seven minute offering leads the listener though an exciting journey of sounds and styles while haughtily showing off the diverse talents of the band as well as Valerie's wide vocal range and they do it flawlessly.
Valerie and Walter Crockett have managed to pull together another collection of fine music, fine musicians and is well worth becoming part of anyone's collection. They have allowed us to peek into their hearts, share their joys and sorrow while managing to entertain and encourage. Superbly talented musicians both as writers and vocalists, Valerie and Walter Crockett are sure to become one of your favorites.
