Peter Lorch - Guitar
Beth Mead - Banjo
George Abramson - Mandolin and Guitar
Performing Area: Pennsylvania
This is the general performing area of this band.
They may perform in other areas as well.
Fred's Mobile Homes delivers great three-part harmonies, innovative arrangements, and a sophisticated blend of traditional and contempory bluegrass, folk, country, and swing. Their debut CD, "Homes Sweet Homes" received high praise in Bluegrass Unlimited and Sing Out magazine. Guitarist Peter Lorch posesses a fine bluegrass tenor voice, plays rock-solid rhythm guitar and writes great original tunes. Banjoist Beth Mead is a thoughtful and inventive musician and a student of Alan Munde. She has an excellent voice, and brings the sound of the Southwest to the band. Beth has released two solo CDs, "Big Bandjo" and "Big Bandjo Rides Again", featuring five-string banjo arrangements of Swing Era classics. Mandolinist and guitarist George Abramson incorporates elements of jazz and folk music into his playing, as well as smooth baritone and lead vocals, ala Gordon Lightfoot and Tony Rice. Bassist Larry Cohen is well known for his pioneering work with Tony Trischka and Skyline, and Silk City. He is simply one of the finest electric bass players in bluegrass today. The vocal blend of Peter, Beth, and George borders on the magical. Combine that with a great selection of original and traditional material, spirited instrumental work, and Larry Cohen's bass, and you have a highly entertaining and appealing group.
On 5/20/06, at 7:30 p.m., we'll be appearing at Luke's Place, a coffeehouse in St. Lukes UCC, on 125 North Main St., in North Wales PA. $5 donation includes refreshments. 215-368-2884 for more info. Fred's is currently in the studio with Beth Mead, recording her latest in the "Big Bandjo" series, featuring 5-string banjo arrangements of some of the greatest pop and swing songs from Tin Pan Alley's golden era. Most recently recorded number - Cole Porter's "Don't Fence Me In", featuring Fred's Mobile Homes on vocals and special guest Alan Munde on guitar.
