Legacy Bluegrass Band

Kevin Phillips, guitar
Donald Warthan, Bass
Tim Newcomb, banjo
Randy Cook, mandolin

Performing Area: Virginia
This is the general performing area of this band.
They may perform in other areas as well.

KEVIN PHILLIPS: Guitar, Vocals
Kevin grew up in the Falling Springs area of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. He began playing music at the age of 10 in his father's band, 'The Sun Valley Boys'. He played with New Dominion Bluegrass and most recently, he teamed up with Donald Warthan in the group 'Heritage,' from 1987-1993, recording 4 albums and performing at the IBMA Showcase in 1992. Kevin currently resides in Williamsburg, VA, with his wife and two children.

DONALD WARTHAN: Vocals, Acoustic Bass
Donald has been performing bluegrass music for over 25 years with such groups as 'Smith & Company', 'Friendly Henry', and his own group, 'Southern Edition'. For 12 years, he was with 'Heritage', a band he was instrumental in co-founding. Heritage performed throughout the eastern part of the United States and was selected to appear as one of IBMA's Showcase bands. Noted for his outstanding vocal ability, Donald was named Virginia State champion male vocalist during the 1980's at Chase City, Virginia. Now retired from Reynolds Metals, he lives in Charles City County, VA with his wife.

RANDY COOK: Mandolin, guitar and Vocals
Randy began his Bluegrass career in 1976 while in college at Virginia Tech playing guitar in the June Apple Band. After years of playing pedal steel guitar in a country band (Second Helpin') he returned to Bluegrass playing guitar in a Richmond based band known as "The Hanover Better Boys". Most recently he played guitar for James Bailey and Company and for George Thomas and Friends. Randy has played at festivals throughout the Middle Atlantic States and appeared on numerous recordings as both an
instrumentalist and vocalist. He is an attorney by profession and lives in Hanover County, Virginia with his wife and two children.

TIM NEWCOMB: Banjo and vocals

Tim began picking Bluegrass music at the age of 15 when he was traveling on the weekends with Appalachian Express. As long as he kept his grades up, his parents agreed to this arrangement. While traveling with them, he helped work sound and began learning to play the banjo. Since then he has been a member of the Hanover Better Boys and George Thomas & Friends Bluegrass groups. Tim runs his own construction company and lives in Chesterfield, VA with his wife and son (who he plans to have 'in the bluegrass groov' at an early age.)
