Wilf Clark and The Misty Mountaineers Recent News

The Misty Mountaineers are a 5 piece Maine based band. 2010 will marks the thirtyfifth year the band has performed. The one original member remaining from the bands begining, in 1975 is mandolinist Wilf Clark. Wilf is the son of country legend Yodeling Slim Clark. Wilf plays a hard driving self taught mandolin style, and is also a strong lead singer. Bobby Davis of the Earl Brothers called him a very soulful singer. The band has had many changes of style and personal over the years,to become more of an authentic old fashioned hard driving band. Steeped knee deep in traditional bluegrass . The current band is made up of veteran performers from the region .. Dotty Farrell, the bass player comes from a country background and anchors the group with a powerful drive. Dotty is a former MISS DOWNEAST COUNTRY MUSIC winner and also DOWNEAST BASS PLAYER OF THE YEAR! Dotty has become one of the most solid traditional bass players in the country today.Dotty also performs with The Larry Gillis band when Larry works the New England area.Dotty does lead and part singing. Jay Smith a talented young college student, is currently employed as the full time fiddler.Jay is quickly becoming a solid Bluegrass fiddler, turning heads wherever he plays! Bernie Staples, plays a solid rhythm and on his "custom Santa Cruiz" guitar. Bernie also sings lead and tenor vocals. high tenor over the vocal styling of Wilf Clark makes for a fine old time bluegrass sound. Kip Hemingway joins the band in the fall of 2010 replacing long time member Suzie Gibson who will be moving from Maine.Kip has played with a number of bands and fronted his own popular group The Hemingway Brothers. He brings the Stanley sound to the group.Kip also contributes baritone, tenor and lead vocals. He also plays guitar and does a great country song. The band is noted for it's long jam secessions with a willingness to include others. They have also worked with younger players helping them learn the music. They have twice played the Joe Val Bluegrass Festival, and recieived a standing ovation. This was the I.B.M.A.Event of the Year in 2006! The Mountaineers have hosted a number of touring acts in Maine, including The Earl Brothers,Danny Paisley and James King. Over the years the group has captured the award for Bluegrass Band of the Year in all three of Maine's music associations MACM,DECMA,and most recently The Maine Country Music Association. The performance range of this popular power group is New England ...for info call 207-672-4481 or email mountaineer75@myfairpoint.net
