The band Fast Forward was started in 1993 by Ricky Reece while playing at the Ernest Tubb Record Shop on Friday nights. They went on to play the Jim Ed Brown theatre with the late Bill Monroe and Lighting Chance. They have played Grand ole Gospel on the Grand Ole Opry and also a few television shows on the music City Gospel Showcase with Don Frost and the New Frost Brothers. They play the Ryman at least once a year. The band Fast Forward has won over 25 contests in the last 3 years and continues to win the best bluegrass band contests everywhere they go. Their rendition of 'Mule Skinner Blues' is the main reason for their success. After nine years together the band has created a sound like none other in the Bluegrass/Gospel field. Their tight harmonies and fast pickin' create a fast paced show that keeps the audience on their feet. Ricky Reece - Ricky has been playing the mandolin since he was five years old. It wasn't long after that that he earned the reputation of being 'The fastest mandolin player on the planet'. His claim to fame is that he is the only mandolin player to ever get a standing ovation on The Grand Ole Opry for his rendition of Durum's Bull while playing with Wilma Lee Copper and her Clinch Mountain Clan. Ricky acts as the band leader, producer, and song writer and booking agent for the band. Along with the mandolin Ricky has been known to play the guitar, bass and banjo. He formerly played for Vern Gosdin, Wilma Lee Cooper, Donny Cantron and Winn Osborne. Ricky does all the MC work on stage. His comic relief adds another dimension to the bands stage show. Ricky is very proud of the sound that he helped to create. Fred Duggin - Fred joined Fast Forward 1995. He and Ricky have been friends for 30 years and have played in many bands together. Their friendship and mutual respect for each others talent has brought this band to a new level. Fred comes to the band from The New Tradition. His hot lick style of guitar pickin' has been compared to Tony Rice. Fred has been instrumental in keeping the rhythm of the band moving forward. Johnny Bellar - Johnny joined the band back in 1999. He had just finished a long stay with the Wilma Lee Cooper band. He was with The New Tradition and the Stonemans for years. Along with being one of the best bass players around, he has not lost a dobro contest in 8 years. Johnny brings a lot of excitement with his rendition of Mule Skinner Blues, which has won him well over 100 contests. Gina Jess - Gina has been known to sit in on a few songs for the show. She takes the bass and lets Johnny go to dobro. Her high singing has been compared to Donny Catron, Alison Krauss and Vince Gill. Her rendition of 'Joshua' has caught the attention of audiences everywhere. Gina is an artist in her own right and adds yet another dimension to the show. Sam Vance is the newest member of Fast Forward. Sam adds a mixture of Scruggs and Eldridge style banjo to the group. Fast Forward has a new CD out called 'Mule Skinner Blues'. It has been catching on like wild fire. They always leave them wanting more. Fast Forward is one of the most exciting shows in the business.
